General Info on Hostels in Rome
Rome is expensive, especially for the budget traveler but Rome has some very good hostels at reasonable prices (€20 to €30 per night).
Here are some things that you might want to consider before booking a hostel in Rome.
- Price - Rome Hostels are expensive in general. In bed in a dorm room starts at €18 per night (normally large dorm rooms) in the low season, but expect to pay €20 to €30 per night in a medium-sized dorm room (6 to 10 beds) in the high season. As with all other major cities in Europe prices at the weekend tend to be 20% to 40% higher.
- City Tax - In Rome, the tourist tax is very expensive. For hostels, it costs €3.50 per person/per night and this fee is not included in the price you find on Hostelworld and other booking websites. Consider it as an extra fee that is paid in cash upon arrival.
- Location - Rome is a large city so it's best to stay in a central location close to the top sights and nightlife. (All hostels listed below are in central locations.)
- Amenities/Services - Every hostel in Rome offers free Wi-Fi and a few hostels include breakfast in the price, but if you want more specific services be sure to do your research to find the hostel that best meets your needs.
- Staff - Most hostels in Rome have excellent staff. They are normally very friendly and will give you some great tips on restaurants, bars and clubs etc. But my advice is to read reviews to make sure the hostel you choose has friendly and helpful staff because rude or unhelpful staff could ruin your hostel experience.
